The Asian Development Bank Delegation Visited Our Ministry

On the 4 March 2025, our Ministry hosted an introductory and cooperation meeting with officials from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). Since 1991, our country has held the status of a "non-regional member" of ADB, and in December 2024, following a decision by the Board of Governors, Türkiye was accepted as the "regional member".

After Turkiye was accepted to ADB as a regional member, efforts were initiated to prepare a "Country Partnership Strategy for the Transition Period" to shape future cooperation with ADB. Accordingly, the ADB delegation, led by Sofia Shakil, the Director of the Office of Central and West Asia and East Asia Region for Human and Social Sector Development, came together with the representatives from our Ministry. The meeting, chaired by Ali Aybey, Director-General of Foreign Relations and European Union, was attended by officials from the General Directorate of Labour, the Turkish Employment Agency, the Social Security Institution, and the Vocational Qualifications Authority.

Programs and projects that could be developed in cooperation with ADB in line with Türkiye's national employment priorities were discussed in the meeting. The participants exchanged views on topics including the development of employment and labour market, strengthening the social security system, defining and recognizing vocational qualifications, and enhancing skills development activities. Additionally, cooperation opportunities to include the disadvantaged groups, particularly women, youth, and people with disabilities, more effectively into the labour market were also considered.

In the upcoming period, there is an aim to strengthen cooperation with ADB through concrete steps, developing projects that will contribute to Türkiye's employment and social policies and facilitating the exchange of experiences.
